About SDI

In 1990, the Caya Family bought Standard Drywall, Inc. (SDI), a residential drywall subcontractor that had built a fine reputation among the residential builders in San Diego, California since 1955. Blaine and Bob Caya established the corporate headquarters in San Diego, California. Starting with a small crew, very little equipment and surpassing financial obstacles, the brothers quickly gained a reputation in the commercial arena for lath and plaster, fireproofing and acoustical ceiling work. Not long after the acquisition, the Cayas expanded the Company into the commercial market of metal framing and drywall. During the early 1990’s, the Company struggled to find its identity through a number of changes in personnel. By 1993, a young talented team had finally developed and established themselves in San Diego. The SDI team established a reputation of providing a high quality product at a competitive price among San Diego’s general contractor community.

In 1994, SDI opened an office in Chino, California to better serve clients located in the greater Los Angeles, Orange County and Inland Empire communities. Due to SDI’s unwavering dedication to customer satisfaction and a new motivated team located in Corona, SDI created a reputation for success in the commercial arena.

At the same time, SDI also expanded into the Salt Lake City, Utah area to take advantage of a tremendous building boom. Initially in 1995, SDI relocated over 80 craftsmen from California to Utah to aid with Utah’s labor crisis. Equipped with competent and motivated labor, a resource that the local drywall companies did not have, SDI completed a number of large projects in the Intermountain region for top general contractors. In a short period of time, relationships were built that made SDI an influential part of the construction community in Utah. From 1995 until 2004, SDI was able to complete a multitude of major projects all over the Western States from these major office hubs.

In 2004, SDI opened up two additional offices in Jackson, Wyoming and Las Vegas, Nevada. The Las Vegas office services the casino and resort growth along the Las Vegas strip and surrounding communities. The Las Vegas office has become one of the largest and most successful in the Company. The establishment of the Jackson office allows SDI to service the steady growth of residential and commercial construction in an isolated location.

With SDI’s current office locations, dedicated and motivated labor force, and management’s commitment to customer satisfaction, SDI has completed projects all over the United States. As an industry leader, SDI provides ample qualified manpower to the schedule of any project, no matter its complexity or location.
