Description:

The federal design-build training facility was delivered as an adaptive reuse within the northwest wing of an existing building at Naval Base San Diego. The 120,000-square-foot, two-story interior buildout supports advanced maritime workforce training through classrooms, hands-on simulation environments, administrative spaces, conference rooms, and an auditorium. Purpose-built operational simulators integrate digital and physical systems to replicate authentic shipboard navigation conditions, requiring precise coordination of interior layouts, acoustics, and building systems within a secure military installation.

SDI supported the project through preconstruction, delegated design, and BIM/VDC services, delivering complex interior construction within the constraints of an existing structure. Early coordination and precision layout were essential to integrating dense MEPF systems and mission-specific training infrastructure while meeting strict federal QA/QC, documentation, and access requirements. The completed facility reflects SDI’s experience delivering technically demanding interior renovations in secure, federally regulated environments.
