Description:
The Loma Linda University Medical Center (LLUMC) Transformation Project replaced aging infrastructure with a next-generation healthcare campus designed to meet California’s most stringent medical, seismic, and operational standards. Spanning approximately 992,000 square feet, the development comprises a 17-story adult hospital tower and a 10-story children’s hospital tower rising from a shared podium. Together, the facilities add 432 acute care beds, significantly expanding regional healthcare capacity while supporting advanced clinical services for the Inland Empire.
Designed for resilience and continuity of care, the hospital complex incorporates advanced seismic base isolation systems that allow the buildings to move independently during major seismic events while remaining fully operational. Delivered through a collaborative team approach, the project required exceptional coordination across highly specialized building systems and clinical environments. Recognized with ENR California’s 2022 Best Healthcare Project award, the LLUMC Transformation Project stands as California’s tallest hospital and a benchmark for large-scale, resilient healthcare construction.
