Description:

The 70,200-square-foot Otter Student Union serves as the heart of student life on campus, bringing together student government offices, meeting rooms, lounges, dining and retail spaces, event venues, and administrative support areas into a single hub. Delivered through a design-build process and funded primarily by student fees, the three-story building reflects extensive student involvement throughout design and construction, ensuring the facility responds directly to campus needs. Positioned as a key campus connector, the Otter Student Union supports daily engagement alongside large gatherings, programming, and events.

Sustainability and long-term performance were central to the design, with an emphasis on daylighting, energy-efficient systems, and durable materials suited for high-traffic use. The building was designed to achieve LEED Gold certification, reinforcing CSUMB’s commitment to environmental stewardship. Flexible layouts, clear circulation, and adaptable gathering spaces allow the facility to evolve with student programming and enrollment growth. Today, the award-winning Otter Student Union stands as a vibrant campus landmark that fosters connection, collaboration, and community.
