Description:

The UC Riverside North District 2 housing complex is a 415,000-square-foot development delivering 429 apartment-style units and 1,568 beds across three mid-rise buildings, supported by new community amenities including a neighborhood market, playing fields, a public park, and a 700-space parking lot. Completed in just 21 months, the project showcases innovative use of cold-formed steel (CFS) framing to achieve structural efficiency and accelerated delivery, enabling UC Riverside to bring critically needed student housing online far sooner than a conventional schedule would allow.

As part of a joint venture, SDI provided the complete framing and drywall scope, installing 5,300 prefabricated load-bearing panels at an average rate of 75 per day. Offsite panelization, phase-sequenced procurement, and precise BIM coordination minimized waste, reduced foundation loads, and supported record-setting field productivity. The result is a resource-efficient, high-performing residential community that expands affordable student housing, relieves pressure on the regional rental market, and establishes a scalable model for addressing California’s higher-education housing shortage.
